The Three United Trades
The Three United Trades of Dundee consists of a collective group bringing together the three construction related Trades - the Masons, the Wrights and the Slaters.
The building of Ninewells Hospital in Dundee was led by a Dundee based builder J.B Hay whose management were key members of the Mason Trade of Dundee and the Three United Trades.
To reflect the influence of history, where both the Nine and Three Trades provided significant support and Board membership historically to hospitals and many other institutions within the City, it was agreed that memorial windows made from Stained Glass would be commissioned to represent the Twelve trades of Dundee.
These windows were opened in the mid 1990’s and are still there to see on the Left hand side of the Main entrance to Ninewells Hospital.
These windows brighten up a rather austere entrance way, with wonderful light shining through on sunny days.
